As Salaam ‘Alaikum:
The Muslim Women’s Instiute for Research and Development is in a financial crisis that threatens its existence. Lost of funding and very slow cash flow has brought the organization to the brink of closure. We appeal to you for assistance. See the following:
Greetings from Nurah and MWIRD:
This message is sent to you as a friend and supporter of the Muslim Women’s Institute for Research and Development (MWIRD).
MWIRD is experiencing a major financial crisis: unless we receive an infusion of funds during the next ten days, we will not be able to our next payroll of $6000 on December 3rd, 2010. I appeal to you to assist us to keep this pioneering organization in operation.
Since 2008 the number of people served monthly by the Community Food Pantry @ Highbridge, one of the food pantries operated by MWIRD, has steadily increased. The numbers have grown from a monthly average of 3551 persons served in 2008, the beginning of the current economic crisis, to 4,506 in 2009 and for the first ten months of 2010 the average has been 5067. However, in past years there has been a significant spike in the number of people served during the last two months of the year. At the same time, the economic crisis resulted in MWIRD’s funding being cut by approximately thirty-three percent as the organization,s funders are also impacted. The small staff has been reduced by forty percent, going from five persons to three.
Each of you can contribute to the survival of MWIRD by making the following a reality: Donations to cover MWIRD’s operational expenses (for November and December) through December 31st, 2010 in the amount of $26,000. If 52 individuals each give $500 or 104 individuals each give $250 or whatever you can. MWIRD will be able to continue its work through the end of 2010 and pay for operations in the months of November and December, in full.
Donations can be made directly through the MWIRD website www.mwird.org. We ask each of you reading this message, to share this request and its urgency with others in your network.
If our friends do not help us, who will?
