Aisatu Trawally
Hi my name is Aisatu Trawally. I come from a country called Gambia & I am also half Senegalese. I like to sing and dance on my spare time. I have 3 brothers & 4 sisters. I was born and raised in America. I have never been to my country, but I plan to go there some day. I like to make friends I get to see many different new peoples. The school that I go to is called A. Phillip Randolph Campus High School. I am there for the health department. When I grow up I want to be a surgeon. The reason I want to be a surgeon is because everybody in my family wants to be a doctor, so I choose the one none of them would even think of doing, I know it’s risky but I believe in myself. I work at Muslim Women’s Institute, working there is a good experience, I’m doing things I’ve never done before. It can be challenging at times but it’s good thing to learn how to take responsibility.
Bria Davis
Hello. My name is Bria Davis. I was born on May 5, 1996, meaning that I am 15 years old. I was born and raised in the Bronx to my two wonderful parents, Phillip Davis and Sabrina Wilkins. I am the youngest of two children. I have an older brother that is twenty years old also named Phillip. I attend Bronx Center for Science and Mathematics which is a small school located on Fulton Avenue. I think I am a nice and friendly person. Some people may think otherwise but that is only if you get on my bad side. I am nice and respectful to people show me those same qualities. When I get around new people I am very reserved and quiet but after a while I become more comfortable and show my true personality. I have a small group of people I can actually trust and call friends. I rather have them than a larger group because it may add more drama into life which I do not need.
Working here at Muslim Women Institute for Research and Development is my first time experiencing working. At first I was a little skeptical about working here but I ended up liking it. I am happy that I did because I would not have wanted to work in an environment I did not enjoy. When I get older I am aspiring to be a Pediatrician. I want to work in this field because I like kids and I want to help them. I am also interested in becoming a fashion designer or something in the fashion industry. However, I do not know how to draw well so becoming a fashion designer may be out of the question. I always wanted to attend USC for college but it very far away from home and may be very expensive. I am very ambitious and have a lot of goals I plan to accomplish in my future and no one is going to stop me from achieving greatness.
Brianna Bourne
Hello, my full name is Brianna Marie Bourne. My middle named was chosen by my mother because it’s half of her first name Rosemarie. I am my mother’s only child and my father’s last of three. My half brother and sister Keino and Hava live in California, so I guess you can say I’m alone at home. Since we live in the Bronx, New York I’m apart from my sister/brother but even though at home I’m the only child I go out a lot with friends and family. I spend a lot of time with my cousins, who live in Brooklyn, and I vacation often out of state so I have gone and seen other places besides my own neighborhood. I recently lost my uncle who lived not so far away from where I live and this had a big impact on us. My family is from Trinidad so when my uncle died he wanted to be brought back home for his ashes to be scattered in the sea, because he loved the beaches.
I’m going to be a sophomore in the fall at Bronx Leadership Academy 2. I’ve been here for a year going on two, I’ve made a lot of friends and even closer friends who I see myself having for a long time. I don’t believe in failure and when I get older I want to be either a doctor or a crime scene investigator and go to an Ivy League college. If not a private/ public college, but I want to go Cornell University. My favorite subject in school is global history, but my least favorite subject is mathematics because I find it hard. When I’m not at school I’m at either girl scouts or this community service program called BuildOn. I’ve been a girl scout since I was five and BuildOn is only for high school students so I’ve been there for only a year. I attend H.E.A.F. (Harlem Educational Activities Fund) during the school which is a college prep program gearing us to get into top colleges and universities in the states. I’ve been at HEAF since the 7th grade. I usually go there in the summer but since it’s only middle school there in the summer, I am currently working at the Muslim Women’s Institute in the Bronx. This is my first work experience and I’m so excited to be working here.
Hakeem Grant
My name is Hakeem Grant. I am 16 years old. I live in the Bronx, but I’m from Queens. I currently attend John F. Kennedy high school. My dad is Jamaican and my mother is African American and Puerto Rican, so yeah I’m mixed .On my spare time I like to play basketball. Basketball is my passion. This summer I have been working at the Muslim Women’s Institute for Research and Development, it’s my first job and it’s not anything I thought it would be. I never thought I would be in a pantry giving food out to people; it’s a lot of hard work. But when I leave from work I know I helped out someone’s family and it’s a good feeling I have to admit .
Mbosseh Njie
My name is Mbossseh Njie. I am 18 years old. I live in the Bronx but from West Africa (GAMBIA). I attend the John F. Kennedy high school. My career is to become a registered nurse. During my summer intern I learn a lot from there, because I never knew there is a pantry in New York. Basically the things I do in the pantry is to give out food to people who need it, and also give out cloths, but I thing is a good idea to do that because people like that, and every time we have deliveries is like you call the whole world to come. I was surprise when I start working here because my teacher told me is not a lot of work to do but basically it is a lot of work but I enjoyed it. The best thing I like about my job is that all my coworkers and supervisors are friendly and nice, but I will never forget about this job in my life because it was my first job.
Naomi Silverio
My name is Naomi Silverio Hernandez and I was born on August 21, 2010, which makes me 17. I was born and raised in NYC. But my parents are from the Dominican Republic. I have a younger brother that’s 16. I’m a very creative & friendly person but I’m also shy. This job is my 3rd job. I worked at Fine Fare & Mc Donalds before. My experience at Muslim Women Ins. Has been great my favorite part has to give back to the community. It just feels so good. I’m starting college in January and I wanna study fashion merchandising or business.
Tynasia Markland
Hello. My name is Tynasia Markland. I am a fifteen old female. I was born and raised in the United States. My father’s side of the family is from Panama and Jamaica. My mother’s side of the family is African American. I am very proud of where my family comes from and who I am. I am a very nice person, But sometimes people take advantage and then my bad side is shown. I like being with friends and having a good time. I dislike being around or apart of drama because that isn’t for me.
When I grow up, I hope to become an OB/GYN doctor. I am interested in this job because I think that the development of life is a beautiful thing. I know it will take many years of studying, but I believe I can achieve anything if I stay focused. Working at the Muslim Women’s Institute For Research and Development has taught me so far that handling a job can be difficult, but if you stay motivated, things will go fine. I am looking forward to growing up and being successful in everything that I do.
